Interrupters
One-minute prayers to help interrupt your day, where you can ask God to reveal his infinite love for you. Ideal if waiting for a kettle to boil, or sitting on the train or bus.
Start with the Prayer of Approach.
Jesus, the centre of time, can do a lot in a minute!
Grace and peace, ASD
Prayer of Approach
[Breathe slowly in for 5 seconds and out for 7 seconds 3 times.]
Heavenly Father, I calm myself and slowly become aware of your presence.
Jesus, live in each new breath I will take today.
Holy Spirit, make them a gift. Awake, my soul, awake!
May all that you are help me to become all that I can be.
Amen.
An interruption for anxiety
Dear Lord Jesus, disrupt those
things that hold me in fear.
Where storms rage, bring your
eternal peace.
Where the ground sinks beneath
me, be my rock. Let my anxious
thoughts be turned to hope.
Amen.
An interruption for living water
With my empty jar,
I come to the well.
In secret, I ask you to see me,
to give rest to my weary soul.
Quench my thirst,
empty me of my burdens
and fill me with life-giving water.
Amen.
An interruption for heavy days
As I begin this day
what else can I say?
Come, Holy Spirit, come!
Meet me in some new way.
Help me be a vessel of your grace.
Touch a world of brutality,
bring your beauty,
demolish the insane.
Fill me with resurrection hope
to see the darkness choke
and driven back.
As I begin this day
what else can I say?
Come, Holy Spirit, come!
Amen.
An interruption for daily surrender
On this day,
I desire to surrender
all of me to you.
To be present, attentive,
open-minded and true.
I will hear your gentle
rebuke and trust
in your goodness.
Amen.
An interruption for knowing God’s presence
My soul longs for
uninterrupted time
alone with you.
But I struggle.
Stir up stagnant waters.
Create a whirlpool
of willingness within me.
May I bathe
in your brightness,
your unquestioning generosity,
and unquenchable love.
Amen.
An Interruption for a fresh start
Challenge my stubborn thoughts
to unlearn old ways.
Help me be courageous
in my next decision.
Prepare me for change,
for the life I don’t yet see.
In your mercy, come.
Amen.
